Rob Lowe: 25 Years of Sobriety

It’s important to celebrate joyful moments in life: and for many, this includes celebrating sobriety. A couple months ago, Rob Lowe celebrated 25 years of sobriety. This is an incredible feat for him, at the age of 51, and to celebrate, he shared the following inspiring message for others:

To those struggling with addiction, there is true, real hope. 25 years ago today, I found recovery; and a life of promise. #Grateful

He told Diane Sawyer: “I spent my whole life in search of fun.” Lowe realized it was time for change in his life 25 years ago, following a sex tape scandal involving an underage woman. He gave up a life of addiction and partying and the “bad boy” persona in search of a better life, a happier life: a sober life.

The 51-year-old told Oprah in 2011 that his sobriety is a blessing, because he has “been able to have the rest of [his] life that [he is] so blessed with.” Lowe and his wife married in 1991, the year he got sober, and he names her as a major positive influence in this journey.

He’s written two memoirs along this journey: Stories I Only Tell My Friends in 2011, and just recently Love Life. We congratulate you, Rob, for doing an incredible thing, and sticking to it for the past 25 years. It is actors like Lowe who set an important precedent. Sobriety is possible, with the right support, and staying sober is one of the most gratifying things anyone could ever do after addiction.
