25 Years of National Recovery Month!

25 years of recovery monthSeptember is National Recovery Month and this year SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Association) is celebrating Recovery Month’s 25th year.

What is Recovery Month?
‘Recovery Month promotes the societal benefits of prevention, treatment, and recovery for mental and substance use disorders, celebrates people in recovery, lauds the contributions of treatment and service providers, and promotes the message that recovery in all its forms is possible.’ [source]

Every year a theme is chosen and events are planned revolving around that theme. ‘This year’s theme, “Join the Voices for Recovery: Speak Up, Reach Out,” encourages people to openly speak up about mental and substance use disorders, the reality of recovery and promotes ways individuals can use to recognize behavioral health issues and reach out for help.’ [source]

Also happening in the month of September is PRO-ACT’s Recovery Walks! march through Philadelphia. It is Recovery Walks! 13th annual event in Philly and this year should be bigger than ever. Keep an eye out for the staff at Malvern Treatment Centers (we will be sporting t-shirts and waving a flag)! If you want to join in on the fun and help us raise awareness of the benefits of recovery, the walk is taking place on September 20th at 9:00am. You can register ahead of time here: https://www.recoverywalks.org.

It’s going to be a great September!
