We like to keep our staff, alumni, and supporters up-to-date with what we’re doing here at Malvern.
Sometimes that takes the form of attending conferences and health fairs. Sometimes it’s new additions to our staff. Sometimes it’s a recovery event we’re sponsoring.
Other times it’s none of the above. That’s what we have in store for you today! We’re honored to announce we’e been working closely with a community organization called Philabundance.
What’s Philabundance?
Philabundance is the region’s largest hunger relief organization. They operate in a number of counties in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey, including Chester, Bucks, Philadelphia, Camden, Gloucester, and more.
They use their relationships with local farmers, manufacturers, and corporations to provide food to all those who need it. They have warehouses and an entire fleet of trucks to provide emergency relief. They also operate a number of unique programs, including Fresh For All, Grocers Against Hunger, and Kid Bites.
Pretty cool, right?
In their own words, Philabundance:
…was created in 1984 with the simple belief that no man, woman or child should go hungry. We seek to drive hunger from our communities today and end hunger forever.
There are three quarters of a million people in our service area who face hunger every day. Their stories are as diverse as the nine counties served by Philabundance: working families hit hard by the recession, women and children, seniors trying to make ends meet.
The one thing they have in common is being part of a food system that desperately needs additional support.
We provide food to approximately 90,000 people per week – of which 30% are children and 15% are senior citizens – through our network of nearly 400 member agencies including food cupboards, shelters, emergency kitchens and more.
We can all agree on the important work they’re doing.
Malvern & Philabundance
Where do we, the folks at little ole’ Malvern, fit into this picture? We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again – we believe in the power of community.

Community’s the reason we have so many PHP and IOP campuses spread around Eastern Pennsylvania. The people from a specific town or county know their challenges and triumphs better than anyone. They know which areas need muscle and which need a tender touch.
So, when we were offered the chance to team up with a community-based organization making some serious changes – we jumped at the opportunity.
Staff members from Malvern volunteer with Philabundance once a month. This takes on different forms almost every time. We go where we’re needed. This month we spent time in their Philadelphia location sorting donated foods and packing bread for their pantries.
It was a great time, as always, and we look forward to our next Saturday with them!
