It’s been a busy couple of months for Malvern. Much as we’d like to take a break, there’s still work that needs to be done!
Here’s what’s happening this month:
Addictions Collaborative 2012 Meeting

The Keystone Center and Key Recovery Outpatient Services have been great at creating and foster a sense of community and collaboration in the addiction treatment field. So, we were pretty excited when they launched the Addictions Collaborative Quarterly Meeting.
Aimed at being “an open forum for discussion between treatment professionals in an
effort to improve collaboration and patient care,” this particular meeting will focus on exploring clinical and demographic trends of drug abuse, reviewing the efficacy of various treatment models, and how to best provide clinical support services and training.
It promises to be a great time and we’re excited to see how we can contribute!
American Psychiatric Association 165th Annual Meeting

The APA needs no introduction (although it is sometimes confused with the American Psychological Association).
They’re the largest psychiatric organization in the world, boasting an impressive 36,000 members, have been around since 1844, and are responsible for creating and continually updating the DSM. All of which is a long way of saying their annual meeting is a wealth of information.
This year’s meeting is focused on integrated care, better understanding barriers to care, and how to acquire new knowledge and skills in clinical psychiatry.
“Integrated Care” The goal of this meeting is to better understand mental health service delivery issues, including barriers to care and acquire new knowledge and skills in clinical psychiatry, which can be utilized to improve patient care.
National Association of Social Worker’s 2012 Annual Conference

Much like the APA’s the largest organization for psychiatrists in the world, the NASW’s the largest membership organization for professional social workers.
With over 130,000 members, it’s pretty large indeed. NASW’s goal is to “enhance the professional growth and development of its members, to create and maintain professional standards, and to advance sound social policies.”
One of the ways they do this is through their annual conference. This year’s conference is focused on how social workers can be leaders in their communities and effect positive change. It’s aptly titled “Social Work Leadership: Tools for Effective Change.”
We’re excited to attend and learn how to better equip our staff to serve our communities!
