Kick-Off Discussion For Our Women’s Empowerment Program (WE)

WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT (WE) PROGRAM KICK-OFF DISCUSSION

In June the Malvern Treatment Centers opened the WE residential program at the Willow Grove campus.The WE program is based on the Gender-Responsive Treatment Model and Healing Trauma. These treatment models emphasize the importance of gender-specific treatment for women and men and focus on building strength and resiliency for women who struggle with trauma histories and co-occurring disorders.Focusing on Gender-Responsive Treatment, with specialized attention to trauma histories, co-occurring disorders, & strength-building modalities. WE is based on “A Woman’s Way Through the 12 Steps”, “Healing Trauma”, and “Seeking Safety”.

Sandra Bloom, M.D. will be the guest speaker at the WE Program Kick-Off Discussion on July 14th.  Dr. Bloom is a Board-Certified psychiatrist, graduate of Temple University School of Medicine and was awarded the Temple University School of Medicine Alumni Achievement Award. Dr. Bloom currently serves as Associate Professor of Health Management and Policy at the Dornsife School of Public Health at Drexel University and in 2016 received the Public Health Practice Award from her school. Dr. Bloom is a Past-President of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies and presently co-chairs the ACEs Task Force for Philadelphia as well as the Campaign for Trauma-Informed Policy and Practice, based in Washington, D.C.

From 1980-2001, Dr. Bloom served as Founder and Executive Director of the Sanctuary programs, inpatient psychiatric programs for the treatment of trauma-related emotional disorders. Over 350 programs have been trained in the Sanctuary Model®. The Sanctuary Model® is now being applied in residential and multi-service treatment programs for children, inpatient mental health programs, schools, domestic violence shelters, group homes, and homeless shelters.

Heading up our Women’s Program is Pat McGovern, MBA, CCDP and Executive Director at Malvern’s Willow Grove campus. Pat is a certified Co-Occurring Disorders Professional and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional.  Pat has been working in the field of Drug and Alcohol Treatment for 14 years and has worked extensively with patients who struggle with trauma histories. Pat McGovern will also be a part of the kick-off discussion.
