Pennsylvania officials see uptick in calls seeking treatment for addiction

September 15, 2017 – Local and state governments across the United States are taking important steps to address the drug epidemic, including Pennsylvania where officials issued a report about its helpline.

Gov. Tom Wolf announced that state residents have been taking advantage of the assistance program operated by the Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP).

Malvern Treatment Centers operates four outpatient facilities and two inpatient campuses in Pennsylvania.

More than 15,500 calls have been placed in just 10 months by individuals living with addiction and loved ones looking for help:

“The helpline is another tool Pennsylvania offers to help those with an opioid or another substance use disorder into treatment and on the road to recovery,” Governor Wolf said. “The success of the helpline reinforces the need for at-the-ready help for those suffering, and is a part of our ongoing effort to fight the heroin and opioid epidemic head on.”

DDAP notes that callers to the hotline have ranged from individuals seeking detox facilities, to those looking for a caring, knowledgeable person to help them out of a situation that might lead to a recovery relapse.
